This week kicked my ass

I’m sitting in bed, noon on a Saturday, waiting for my head to stop throbbing, so it seems like a good time for an update.

This week I instituted an entire healthy living overhaul. I’m getting minimum 7 hours of sleep. I’m down to 2 cups of coffee in the morning. I’m on a diet. I’m on the wagon. It’s a major health overhaul that I seriously needed. I had been living on fumes and beer for far too long, and it’s time to feel good again. Nay, feel great.

And I mostly have been. I worked out hard this week, and after my early morning strength/core class on Thursday, I was officially toast.  The race last Sunday left me pretty damn tired, more tired then 1 rest day could fix, so I went in to the week a bit run down already. But I powered through. I am skipping yet another Saturday team ride this morning; I have a few excuses including a pounding headache, but the main one is that after the last one I did, I was tired the next day. Like un-race-ably tired. I know, that’s how little I’ve been cycling this last month. Way sad.

It’s hard to jump in with a new team mid-season and try to do what they’ve been training to do for months, especially since I’ve been floundering for quite a while. I figure after a few more weeks I wil suck it up and go and just be tired the next day, but i would like a few more solid races before then.

On the diet front, I’ve been going (mostly) strong, and have reached my goal of a 1.5 lb weight loss over the last week. Now if I can only keep that up for 10 weeks…yeah probably not, but I’m not stressing. My main goals are to feel great and fit into the majority of my clothes. Oh, and not have muffin top on my legs when I’m wearing my knee warmers. That’s definitely a must. :)

What I HAVE been noticing is that I’m very, very tired in the afternoon. I’ve been getting plenty of sleep, not eating any sugar, so I’m not sure why I’m crashing so hard. I think it’s just natural, when you sit on your ass all day (and don’t slurp down a liter of coffee). I discovered there’s a 24hr fitness right near my work in Camas, so I might have to start hitting the gym during lunch, just to wake myself up for the rest of the day (and burn a few calories).

Things I’m looking forward to? More weight training, snowboarding, swimming and feeling good about myself again. Can’t really say I’m looking forward to indoor cycling or to rain soaked rides, but I am looking forward to getting to know my new team, and what better way to bond then on a 4 hour, 39 degree rainy ride?
