Bear Springs XC…or not

I had a ride lined up and was mentally preparing on Saturday. Then I got The Call from a team mate. “Yeah, I pre-rode the course and did the short track today. um, I turned around after 3 miles and am not doing the race, way too much snow. And it’s snowing right now on the campground.” Hmmm, I checked the weather. 34 degrees for the start of the race.

Hmmmm.

“Lots of people running” he said. Running. A mountain bike race. Drive 3 hours and pay $25 to run. That would be a no.

I’m sad because that course is AWESOME and the promoter puts a ton of work into it, but there is no way in hell am I going to drag my ass up there only to run half the course (which given the status the very wet, slippery roots, I would have been doing). So, I bailed. Did my own longish ride instead.

My parents are in town, so there will be no coming epic adventures (the rain isn’t helping). I still plan on Chainbreaker though (yay!) and I am considering the RACC ride on Saturday (Ride Around Clark County). I did this century last year and it was awesome! I have been having a very very strange hankering to do a 100+ mile ride lately, and this would be the ride of choice. Weather looks 50/50 at this point.

So there will be no Creampuff since I’m sure the registration is filled at this point, but I wouldn’t be ready for it anyway. I would still like to ride the course though. 50 miles would be plenty. :) Silverton is a go (weather dependant), and I’m thinking Pickett’s Charge will be a go. Road racing? I’m….kind of…..over it. Still. I’m going to see how I feel after Silverton. But it’s just not in my head space right now at all. I would like to do Tabor series (if it’s even going on).

I’m just going to play it by ear, since I’m not sure what my work status is going to be (some potentially long contract positions are on the horizon which may interfere with my abilities to take really long weekends). So we shall see! Right now it’s all about the bike love.
