I can’t say I’ve been very motivated to race lately. I have been focusing my energies on starting a business, and while I have been doing lots of riding, I just haven’t had the desire to get out and race. Perhaps its the upgrade in category, perhaps its the longer distances, not sure. But I’ve been OK with that, and I can’t say that racing when its 38 degrees and raining is really something I want to do anyway.
On Friday the team had our first friday drink-fest at Madison’s; lets just say it involved Irish car bombs, salsa dancing and doing karaoke to Billy Idol. So I had about 4 or 5 hours of solid sleep and didn’t emerge from the couch until about 1pm the next day. Yeah, not exactly great race prep for Sunday, especially since I had a few hours to wake up, ride on the trainer, then get fancied up for the Alice Awards (BTA’s annual fund raiser). While we left early and came home, I can’t say I was anxious to run out and race the next day, especially since the forecast was calling for snow (!). So I decided against racing. Apparently I made the right choice: the race ended up being canceled due to the snow in the end. So I have one more opportunity to race at Hagg Lake when I get back from my trip, although I doubt I will feel like racing the day after I spend a million hours in the car.
I’m excited to see al the cat 4’s pumped up to race, and I wish I felt the same. But at this point I’m actually more excited about training and getting stronger and just taking it slower. I’d rather be at peak strength and motivation in the late spring/early summer when it’s actually nice(ish) out.
