Cross Crusade No.3 – Rainier

I was ready to do some damage. With 2 bad races under my belt, I needed a (personal) win. It was cold when we got there, colder then what I was prepared for. I nervously watched, slowly got our stuff to the team tent after a bowl of hot oatmeal and hot cider (thank you Bob’s Red Mill and Chris King!!!), I pre-rode the course at 11:30am. It was very fast, very hilly, and very fun. I sat around some more. I got on my bike and had a not-very-good warm up (my bike kept feeling like it was going to fall off the trainer).

Despite the new rules about lining up, I got there really early, way too early. I enjoyed the sunshine, but I was getting nervous and a bit chilly. I lined up in the 3rd row (of 3 rows) and waited. I was going to nail this one dammit.

The whistle blew and we were off. An average start. Up..up and oh crap I should have warmed up more. Ow ow ow. Stay on their wheels stay on their wheels don’t get yourself get dropped…pass her…oh I’m being passed…oh passed again…oh crap…run around 2 people on the super bumpy section…oh they passed me again anyway… this went on for about 3 laps before we were so spaced out that I couldn’t see any more As and I just focused on passing all the beginners and Bs.

I have to say, even though my placing doesn’t look much different, I felt AWESOME! Only 1 B passed me (who should NOT be a B), and Beth didn’t pass me until the very last hill where we duked it out. A total win for me, personally, which is precisely what I was looking for.

Unfortunately I came home and realized I had a fever and have been sick the past 2 days. crappola. Especially since next week has to be a rest week, since I’ll be in Cleveland. So 2 weeks off…not so good. Oh well.

I’ve decided I need to change the name of this blog because I haven’t done anything remotely related to triathlons in a long time. I’m hesitant to change the URL, but I do want to redesign and rename it. Any ideas?
