First of all, please ignore how ugly the site looks right now… I updated it and lost all my designs, but i was going to redesign it anyway, so i didn’t bother to try to fix it.
Astoria: What AMAZING weather! Sunny, 60-70’s, it was summer on the coast, at the end of October. Completely insane. We drove out early Saturday morning, arriving at the Fairgrounds around 10:30am. I wasn’t feeling that great, since I was sick all week, and I was CRAZY SORE from starting a new weight-training program on Thursday with Upper Echelon training. Hm yeah. I prerode the course, saw how incredibly bumpy it was, and realized I was going to suck. So I decided to ride my mountain bike. I knew it would be slower, I knew I would be completely un-competitive, but to be honest I felt like crap anyway. Might as well have some fun.
I did have some fun despite being waaaay last place (I kept losing my chain, which didn’t help anything), although I did discover I can cross remount on my mtb bike, which will be helpful for short track. I don’t have as much fun though, as I do when I’m really racing and feeling good. I knew that Sunday was considered the fun-race, so I probably would be mostly drunk. Oh well.
After the race, a bunch of us went to the Rogue Brewery…we ended up having to wait 1.5 hours for our beer and food. It was totally awful. So I wouldn’t recommend taking large groups there. Anywho, we still had fun, and afterwards we went upstairs to a party. People were drinking….water. Turns out people were taking Sunday seriously after all. We also went to the bonfire, but we didn’t really know anyone there, and the vibe seemed different then the year before (although I wasn’t drunk like I was the year before).
We were in bed before midnight, and woke up feeling great. I think the Saturday race got the soreness out of my legs, and I felt awesome. I even attempted to feel like crap by drinking a double bloody mary, but even that wouldn’t change my legs’ mind. So, in full bridesmaid gear, makeup all over my face (described by onlookers as nightmarish and horrifying), I raced my race. And it was a blast, I felt awesome, and I did well(ish). I raced much of the race with a girl from Bike Gallery, back and forth, but then with 2 laps to go, I just lost my steam and she passed me. Kinda sucked. But oh welllll, I had a good time. Pics to be posted soon once I comb through all of them.
In other news, I am in Cleveland, OH right now, doing not much of anything. We ran this morning, well, ran-walked. We were out for about an hour, probably ran-ran for 30 minutes, and yeah my knee hurt. Kinda depressing. But I think I’m going to start hitting the strength stuff pretty hard, targeting the muscles I need to fix this thing.
