You know it’s bad when…

…you have a nightmare that your seat tube and saddle get stolen from your mountain bike and you can’t find a replacement.

Last night was the last short track of the year :*( It was the best course yet, pretty technical, lotsa fun, something challenging for everyone. No crashes or mechanicals! yay! I definitly see all the places where I could have gone much faster, and that will just take more work on my skills. I don’t really have any idea how I placed, but I felt pretty awesome.

Question for all of you: any mtb shoe recommendations that work well in mud? I am thinking of getting some carbon-soled Shimano’s, which seem much more value per $ then sidi’s, which seem really overpriced to me. I’m not one to just run out and buy the shoe that everyone else is getting, which sidi seems to bank on. The shoes I have now are horrendous, plus the velcro is on its last leg. LISTEN UP SHOE MANUFACTURERS: STOP PUTTING VELCRO ON MTB SHOES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. Maybe Portland is singular in its clay-like mud, but velcro pretty much has a 1 year life span here, and you can’t really replace those straps, rendering the long-life claim of many shoes pretty moot.

That is why you buy sidi’s just about every piece is replaceable on the Dominator. I have replace several bits and pieces and most shops have plenty of the parts laying around. Those shoes are worth the money. I have 5 years and 3 cross seasons on my Sidi Dominators. I would never use another shoe for mountain. For road–sure go cheaper–but our cross season is so tough on stuff and my shoes have passed with flying colors.
