My bike club’s century was Saturday; we did it in just about 5 hours, ~19mph average, which is a new record for me. Woohoo; the route was beautiful through Yamhill wine country, and the temps were perfect. What a great ride, with great people! I also added about an inch to my farmers tan; there was a ring of burn around my arms and legs, which leads me to believe I either grew an inch or my clothes are shrinking–or this whole diet thing is way not working.
Sunday I didn’t do much of anything; I was supposed to go on a mtb ride, but I seemed to have developed a huge knot and/or bruise on my quad that was not feeling so good. It still hurts to the toucht this morning, but I’m hoping I can just ignore it for short track. Speaking of, I am currently in 10th place for the series. I am bummed that I’ve only managed to have 1 good race; every other has involved a crash or a mechanical. Oh well, such is short track. I’m praying that CX will not be this way.
And speaking of CX, I had my cross rig looked over yesterday; the brakes were squeeling like a banshee and the headset seemed a bit f*d. Apparently the kind of internal headset I have tends to loosen itself over time (yay), so there’s not much I can do about that. He fixed the brakes by filing them down, so it looks like my idea to sand them off would have worked. I also got a new chain; the old one seemed kind of…chunky (?), apparently I was correct in this diagnosis, as it was REALLY stretched. Something is still making a creaking noise when I pedal though; it’s mostly when I stand up, so I believe it is likely the headset. Not sure what to do about that one except get some headphones

CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS! CYCLOCROSS!
I can’t wait.
I feel bittersweet about cyclocross. I love it with all my heart…but it also means that summer is over. le sigh.
I agree that Saturday was a great ride. I finally threw up the white flag at about mile 90 so I could pull over and stretch my cramping feet. I rode the last 8 miles in alone at a nice leisurely pace. Even with that, I averaged something like 18.8 mph, which is the fastest pace for any ride I have done this year.
