crappy damn weather

I got all my shit together, drove to the ride, got incredibly cold, started off with my team…and then the freezing rain started. I looked down and saw the icicles forming on my jacket and shoe covers. We were out about 10 minutes before the sane ones turned around. (I’ve heard a few of the remaining people who attempted a ride crashed! I hope they’re alright!)

So I rented The Flying Scotsman (really good, btw, I love Jonny Lee Miller) and sat on my trainer for an hour and fifty minutes. A new record for me. Watching a movie certainly makes it way easier, but I was seriously bummed. I’ll have to get in some time outside tomorrow, although the weather still looks crap (but not icy).

I’m upset that it looks like my plan for 6 hours of riding this weekend is pretty much a bust. This stresses me out, which is why I’ve always been resistant to making specific workout plans. When something (weather, work, health) keeps them from happening, I get really annoyed and stressed out. And it’s only January. So now is the time to learn how to make a plan, stick to it, and if forces outside my control screw with it, learn to roll with the punches a bit better. 2 hours on the trainer is pretty damn good; my Chris Carmichael book says that’s equivalent to 2.5 hours outside. This may be true, but I don’t feel like every ounce of energy was sapped out of my body, as it usually does after 4 hours with the team. Maybe this is a good thing. Tomorrow, though, will definitely involve lots and lots of climbing.
