I’m sorry to say yesterday was not the best. I had lots of ginger cookies and broke down and tried the banana bread (which is unbelievably good, btw). Ah well, despite this I still ate pretty well.
I leave tomorrow for Bend for a long weekend, so I guess I should make some plans.While I won’t be snacking on raw broccoli any time soon, I’m sure I can figure out something to eat in the car that isn’t chex mix. The point of car food is simply to keep one’s mouth chewing on something crunchy, and to keep a level of satiety that allows me to keep from getting car sick. This time I’ll be driving, so I shouldn’t have a problem with that. I found these ideas:
* Cleaned and sliced raw vegetables; grape or cherry tomatoes
* String cheese
* Yogurts in a tube (ewww)
* Pretzels
* Baked, flavored rice or popcorn cakes
I used to eat a lot of dried fruit, but my stomach isn’t a huge fan of that. As far as actually being in Bend, our condo has a full kitchen in it, so we’re going to Trader Joe’s tonight to stock up on food. I think we’re staying with people who love to cook; hopefully they love to cook healthfully. I’ll be bringing lots of salad stuff, soup, and clif bars. We’ll probably be eating lunch while skiing, so I’m thinking probably pb&j sammiches. I’ve tried other things like hummus sammiches while hiking, but that’s not a pretty sight after sitting in a backpack for a few hours.
