Looking Ahead

I found this through XTerra Planet…

WHITE RIVER 4K/8K SNOWSHOE
Qualifier for the U.S. Snowshoe Nationals

White River 8K
The White River 8K will begin at the White River West Sno Park. The course is an adventure through the White River Canyon. This is the oldest snowshoe event in the northwest. The route will leave the snow park and travel to the end of the canyon and return. The course is a narrow loop.
White River 4K
The White River 84K will begin at the White River West Sno Park. The course is an adventure through the White River Canyon. This smaller version of the 8K loop will serve as the US Juniors National qualifier. There will be one significant climb on the loop.

Yeah, I guess I’ve only ever snow-shoed once. But this sounds pretty damn fun, and I’m certainly used to anaerobic activity. Looks like there’s another race in early February at Frog Lake. And something that would be awesome for a crazy training weekend: Cascade Huts. For MTB in the summer, snowshoe-ing/XC skiing in the winter, there are 3 huts you can rent and be out on Mt Hood for a long weekend without having to lug all your crap around with you. They are stocked with kitchen stuff and food, sleeping bags, everything you could possibly need. Sounds pretty sweet to me since I have having crap on my back, I will definitly have to check this out.

Next Year
I really want to do this: Solstice Off-Road Tri
The XTERRA Solstice Triathlon is part of the XTERRA America tour. This event boasts one of the most beautiful courses and is quickly gaining its’ reputation as the toughest XTERRA Points Series Race. We encourage all XTERRA athletes to try this event though DNF’s are common. The course is challenging and not for the inexperienced. Whiners are not allowed. We pride ourselves on building the toughest bike and run courses possible.

Sounds like a blast!

I just came across your mention of Cascade Huts, which my friend, Don Bain, and I just got off the ground this year. Thanks for the mention and I hope you can join us for some snowshoeing and mountain biking!
