Wednesday night I participated in one of pdxtriclub’s time trials, put on at the Athelete’s Lounge in Hillsboro. There were about 16 people in the “race” which was essentially the exact bike course of the Hawthorne Farms tri. It was interesting to reride the course soley as a TT, to see if I could beat my previous time. I believe I clocked in at about 32 minutes for about 11 miles (let’s remember there are a good number of hills), and I did about 40 minutes for the race (although that was a tad longer). So I defintly raced it better last night, and I felt like I could’ve gone even faster. I really tried to hone in on a few riders toward the end and just hammer it out to pass both of them. I felt really strong the whole time, which was awesome.
I actually bought a book that consists solely of swimming workouts, since I felt that my swimming needs a refresh; this morning I did the first one, and before i knew it, it had been an hour. I couldn’t believe it. It felt really good, although I know that I’m swimming ungodly slow. I’m going to pick up some swim toys this weekend. Towards that end, I’ve incorporated some weight lifting targeting at my upper body to assist my swimming strength; mostly shoulder stuff. I did a few sets of 10-20 of the upright row, lateral raise, front raise, and kickback. If y’all have some more, I’m just making it up as I go. Not sure which exercises best target swimming. I’m thinking I should do pushups, although I really really hate them. And possibly dips instead of the kickbacks.
