I went out with the pdxtriclub again today, since I missed velo’s ride on Saturday, spending my day on a plane coming back to Portland (yee haw). We met at Hagg Lake and rode out in the wine country of Yamhill county. The sun came out and blessed us with beautiful weather; what a great ride. The whole time I was thinking that this was what I was wishing I was doing in Florida…I need active vacations.
The crap part of the ride came in the last 5-10 miles when I couldn’t ignore the burning between my shoulders anymore (where I was sore a few days ago from Kayaking). Owwwww. Plus I just felt tired in general the whole ride (I think I was a bit dehydrated, sodium-defecient, jet-lagged, and I hadn’t ridden in a week). Considering all that I rode well, but those last 20 minutes were torture. The bottom of one of my feet started hurting, my stomach started rebelling, yeah, it was not good. I soft-pedaled back (I was not alone in this, which made me feel a bit better), and after we de-biked, we went out for a run. Which since I’ve decided to hold off for running until after I see a doc, or at least until next week (?) I only ran for a few minutes, just to test the waters. Damn. Running after an arduous 55 mile bike ride is REALLY HARD. Especially since I didn’t have enough salt in me and water was sloshing around in my stomach. I kind of ended the ride on a sour note, didn’t feel very good about things…but I really shouldn’t be too hard on myself, considering I just got back from a trip. Ah well, I got out there and rode!
